How long does it take for the battery to charge?
HotBars are equipped with USB-C fast charging capabilities, which results in a fully depleted battery being full charged in around 3 hours. The included charger and USB-C cable are both PD fast-charging compatible.
Slower chargers (most phone chargers and common charger blocks) will require 5+ hours for a fully depleted battery to receive a full charge.
Can I remove the battery pack from the bike to charge it?
While this is completely possible from a technical standpoint, the time required to do so would not be worth it to do so. The battery pack is indeed fully removable for extended periods of nonuse (for example, during summer), but it requires a couple minutes to do so. The two clamp bolts and heater wires make it just inconvenient enough to where we don't suggest it.
On-bike charging is the reason HotBars come with a 6' charge cable, rather than the 3' cables commonly included with other electronic devices. In certain storage situations where the distance to an outlet is farther than 6' away, we've purchased longer cables or even USB extension cables.
Do you wish the included cable was longer than 6'? Send us an email at contact@hotbars.com and let us know. If we get interest, we could include longer charge cable lengths during checkout.
Can I charge my HotBars if my bike storage area drops below freezing?
HotBars are completely capable of charging in freezing temperatures. Charging lithium ion battery in below-freezing temperatures is normally a bad idea because it can damage the longterm capacity and performance of the battery. However, HotBars are equipped with technology that prevents you from having to worry about the ambient temperature in which your battery is being charge. It will simply take longer to charge the battery pack under those conditions.
All of that said, we always encourage customers to charge their HotBars in a bike storage area that remains above freezing, if possible.
